www.burlingtonfreepress.com The Burlington Free Press Mercy Peace Awards applications available Applications are being accepted for the 2009 Mercy Peace Awards. Up to $30,000 will be given to Vermont-based projects designed to promote peace and social justice. All proposals must involve the larger community, and programs that focus on youths will receive special consideration. Last year's recipients included the Burlington Peace and Justice Center, the American Friends Service Committee and Pax Christi Burlington, Kids for Peace Vermont, the Milton Family Community Center, and the Winooski Coalition for a Safe and Peaceful Community. This year's application process has two rounds: Initial application forms are due July 1, after which the Sisters of Mercy Peace Initiative Awards committee will select second- round candidates.

Complete application forms will be due Aug. 15. According to the mission statement, $30,000 in grants is to be distributed annually to "Vermont based individuals and organizations working to create a more peaceful society.

Wright 80, passed away Monday, May, 26, 2008, at his home in Bristol. He was born Feb. 29, 1928, in Hinesburg, the son of Alfred and Mary Pierce Wright. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara (Wolcott) Wright, in 1997. Howard is survived by his special friend of 11 years, Pamela Whittemore, of Bristol; four children, Betty and Frank Jeffersonville, Howard A.

Wright Jr. and Denise of Clarksville, Ella Johnson and fianc Randall Blair of Bristol, Mary Taylor of Sheldon; several grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, stepgrandchildren and stepgreatgrandchildren; a sister, Scribner and Richard of Bakersfield. He was predeceased by a brother Charles Wright; two sonsin-law, Tom Taylor and Patrick Ryan Sr. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 30, at Brown McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes.

MICHAEL G. BOYDEN JERICHO Michael G. Boyden of Jericho, formerly of Melrose, passed away unexpectedly, surrounded on May 23, 2008, at the age of 52. Michael was born on Sept. 1, 1955, in Everett, and raised in Melrose.

Michael worked in the fire alarm and security system industry for the past 25 years. Over the past 10 years he has been working as a regional sales manager for Silent Knight, a division of Honeywell Fire Systems and Life Safety where he contracted national accounts to use Honeywell Fire Solutions. Michael attended elementary school at St. Mary's School in Melrose and high school at Malden Catholic in Malden. He attended college at Lowell University, now known as UMass Lowell.

Michael was married to his childhood sweetheart, Janet, for almost 30 years. He was a loving and caring husband and dad. CASSORT BARRE CITY Manford Cassort, 86, of Woodland Drive, died Monday, May 26, 2008, in the Berlin Health and Rehab Center. Born Oct.

21, 1921, in Barnes County, N.D., he was the son of Harry and Elizabeth (Ludwig) Cassort. After his parents death, he lived with his Grandmother Ludwig, Aunt Kate Olson and Uncle Albert Ludwig. Later he moved east to live with his grandmother Flora Haak in Canandaigua, N.Y., where he graduated from its academy in 1939. Shortly after his graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre of Operations.

In 1951 he graduated from the Alfred Agricultural Technology College in Alfred, N.Y. In June 1951, he began employment with Massey-Ferguson Farm Machinery Company, and was a sales representative in New York state and the New England area. He retired in 1981 as a result of a medical disability. On June 14, 1947, he married Edna Rogers in Bristol, N.Y. They made their home in Canandaigua, and since 1963, in Barre.

Wayne loved his family and enjoyed flowers, especially lilies, playing, cards, sports of all kinds and eating out, taking visitors to his favorite restaurant. As a young man he played on the Bristol, N.Y., baseball team. He loved life and never forgot his Western heritage. Besides his wife of 60 years, he is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Cassort, at home, Arlene Hanson and her husband, Douglas, of Montpelier, and Sharon Pratchett, who works in the National Park system; as well as many nieces, nephews and cous- Wednesday, May 28, 2008 and Edward had a daughter, Madison Olivia, May 15 at FAHC. in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Church in Burlington. STANLEY URSPRUNG WATERFORD, Conn. Stanley F.Ur. sprung, 82, passed away on May 27, 2008, after a brief illness. He was born July 20, 1925, in Waterford, to the late Clinton and Florence (Kinne) Ursprung.

Stan was drafted into the U.S. Army before his formal graduation from Chapman Technical High School and served as a radio operator in the 1st Reconnaissance Troop in the European theatre as part of Gen. Patton's 1st Division. He was discharged with the rank of sergeant. When he returned from service, he attended the University of Vermont where he was a member of the Gold Key Honorary Society, and president of both Boulder Honorary Society and Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

He was also an outstanding athlete, being a member of both the track and field team and the football team. ALBANS Badger, Heather, and John James Wagner, had a son, Caleb James Wagner, May 23 at NMC. Drake, Emerald (Lee) and William, had a daughter, Lucy AnnaLise, May 25 at NMC. earned the nickname "Automatic Toe" for his accuracy as a place kicker. He was named to the All New England College team and subsequently was invited to play professional football. In 1991 he was inducted to the University of Vermont Athletic Hall of Fame.

Stan married Elisabeth (Betty) Caskey in 1949, and they moved to Springfield, in 1955. Stan was a member of the first faculty at Longmeadow High School where he taught history for 32 years. He also coached football and track for more than 20 years and was inducted into the Massachusetts, High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He and his wife were members of Faith United Church in Springfield for 53 years. Stan's greatest pleasure was being together with his family.

In addition to his wife, Betty, Stan leaves two daughters, Diane Jette and her husband Al of South Burlington, and Nancy Ursprung and her husband Richard Dodson of Daphne, two sons, Jeffrey and his wife Maureen of Quincy, and Russell and his wife Debra of Groton, Mass. He also leaves two sisters, Mitchell, Elliemae (Draper) and Kevin, had a son, Jared Allen Lewis Mitchell, May 24 at NMC. Morgan, Kyla, had a son, Jaydn Lee Morgan, May 22 at NMC. SHELBURNE McLean, Emily (Olson) and Daniel, had a son, Henry Michael, May 11 at FAHC. SOUTH BURLINGTON Gallo, Valerie (Wiley) and Robert, had a daughter, Fiona Maren, May 8 at FAHC.

Paul Richard Studley, 44, a Dutchess County, resident for 19 years, formerly of New Milford, and Essex Junction, died unexpectedly on May 26, 2008, in Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was currently employed as Operations Manager for Entergy in Buchanan, where he had worked for the last 18 years. Paul's hobbies included ice hockey and golf. Born in Pittsfield, on Jan. 8, 1964, he was the son of Richard Studley and the late Jean Spaulding Studley, who predeceased him on May 17, 2002.

After graduating from Essex High School, Class of 1982, Paul enlisted in the U.S. While serving, he studied at the Naval Nuclear Power School in Orlando, and proudly served aboard the U.S.S. Philadelphia S.S.N. 690 and was twice nominated and selected as Sailor of the Quarter. On July 25, 1987, he married Laura Pelton in the First Congregational Church in New Milford.

Laura survives at home along with their two children, Eric and Kaitlyn. Other survivors include his father, Richard Studley and his wife, June of Essex Junction, his maternal grandmother, Doris Spaulding of Lenox, his sister, Jo-Ann Moore of Arcata, his brother, Kevin Studley of South Burlington, his mother-in-law Elizabeth Pelton of New Milford; his brot Steven Pelton and his companion, Keri Wheeler of New Milford; his niece, Lorelei Moore of Vermont; his nephew, Zeke Moore of California; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the McHoul Funeral Home 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m.
