BFA Takes Advantage of Rebels, 9-6 V3 XT 'I BFA came back for five more runs in the sixth on a series of errors, a two run single by Mark Mercure and a three run homer by Langevin. South Burlington added its final run in the sixth as Breen scored on John Garvey's single, but Norris worked out of a bases loaded jam in that inning and a two on situation in the seventh to gain the victory. BFA hosts Middlebury and South Burlington is at CVU today. By WALLY JOHNSON It was one of those afternoons at the South Burlington High baseball field Monday. Not only was the BFA-South Burlington game the first NIAC encounter to be struck by streakers, it was also one of those seesaw contests which South Burlington gave away with errors, 9-6.

The win improved BFA's record to 4-5 and dropped South Burlington to 5-8. In order to qualify for tournament play, South Burlington now must win its final three games, two against CVU and one against Montpelier. BFA took a 1-0 lead off Kevin in right, ran through the outfield and back into the woods in left. It livened things up among the fans, and South Burlington seemed to get its offense going after the interlude as it hit Norris for five runs in the fifth. Tim Breen's single and a walk to Bill Dewar started the rally and Brian Casey got it going in good fashion with a sinking liner to right which went for a triple when a shoestring catch bid failed.

Mike Martineau then singled in a run and hits by Craig Ignazeswki and Dean McLellan brought in two more for a 5-4 Rebel lead. Rock in the second inning as Bill Leahy reached on an error, went to second on a fielder's choice and scored on Kevin Connolly's double off the fence. The count went to 4-0 in the fifth as Rock was touched for three more unearned runs. Doug Maynard singled, Bob Norris reached on an error and Leahy walked. Henri Langevin's grounder then was misplayed, with two runs scoring and Connolly hit a sacrifice fly for the third.

Before the bottom of the fifth, along came the streakers, as two masked males jumped the fence New Orleans Stocks New NBA Franchise NEW ORLEANS (AP) Two youngsters with potential and an aging veteran head the 15-player squad chosen by the New Orleans franchise in the National Basketball Association expansion draft Monday. Center Dennis Awtrey, 26, averaged almost 53 per cent from the field for Chicago last season, playing as a reserve. And forward E.C. Coleman, 24, a first-year man out of Houston Baptist, hit 51 per cent in a starting role for Houston. Walt Bellany at 35 the oldest player among the picks came to New Orleans as an acknowledged part of the trade with Atlanta for guard Pete Maravich earlier this year.

Another part of that trade sent guard Dean Meminger of New York and foward Bob Kauffman of Buffalo to the Hawks. "From our standpoint, we're thrilled at those two picks," said franchise President Fred Rosenfeld. "With Pete, we would not have taken Meminger," he said. "In regard to Kauffman, we have checked with doctors, and so have they. All I can say is he didn't play much last year." New Orleans is the sixth top since Bellamy came into the league with Chicago in 1961.

Rosenfeld said the veteran center won't be with the new franchise long, if he doesn't hustle. "Hell have to make the club like anybody else," said the California attorney. Rosenfeld said he expects the new franchise to post a better first-year record than expansion teams of the past. "If 33 or 35 is best, we reasonably expect to exceed that," he said. "We are the only team picking.

If we can't produce better than other expansion teams, when two or three teams had to spread the talent around, perhaps we aren't doing our job."
