Free Press, Sunday, December 17, 1989 in Vermont projects win grants, loans EARN IT ON THE I I buy 1,107 acres of forest In Jay development rights on 130 acres of the Green Acres dairy farm in North Hartland. The farm is 5 miles south of White River Junction and borders both sides of U.S. 7 in North Hartland. Conservation restrictions will be placed on 150 acres of forest, and the Nature Conservancy will own and provide public access to a mile-long strip of Connecticut River frontage. A $69,600 grant to the Agriculture Department and the Working Land Fund to purchase development rights on the 280-acre Mayo Farm in Hardwick.

That will protect the farmland from development. The farm, including 140 acres of prime agricultural land, will be purchased in three parcels by three families who will operate the dairy and produce organic vegetables. A $100,000 challenge grant to Shelburne Farms for restoration and stewardship of the Farm Barn as an educational and exhibit center. Shelburne Farms is a agricultural and environmental educational center that had more than 50,000 visitors and 12,000 tour participants this year. $273,135 in loans and grants to Interfaith Housing of Addison County and Housing Vermont to construct the Pine Meadow Housing project in Middlebury.

The complex will include 26 units of affordable family housing. Middle-bury has provided land for the project under a 99-year renewable lease. The projects will provide affordable housing for 144 Vermont families and preserve 1,667 acres of land. Approved were: A $950,000 loan to the Central Vermont Community Action Council and Housing Vermont to buy and rehabilitate the Highgate Apartments in Barre. The 120-unit low-income housing complex provides about half the subsidized family apartments in Washington County. Survivors are Yvette Cook, Richard Maurice, Marie and Susan. EDWARD BOWDISH JR. WEYBRIDGE Edward Bowd-ish, 78, died Friday, Dec. 15, 1989, at his home after a long illness. He was born Oct.

23, 191 1, in Weybridge, the son of Edward Sr. and Edna (Elkins) Bowdish. He attended Middlebury High School and schools in Weybridge. He was a member of the Middlebury VFW Post and the DAV. He was also a member of the Green Mountain Club and the Weybridge Historical Society.

He was a farmer in Weybridge and made his home there all of his life. He had been an active volunteer at the Shelburne Farms in Shelburne. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European campaign. In 1945, he married Ha Blaisedell in Burlington. He is survived by his wife, Ha, of Weybridge; three sons and their wives, Robert and Phyllis Bowdish, Joseph and Alice Bowdish, Michael and Lisa Bowdish, all of Weybridge; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mary Mansfield of Newton-town, and Harriet Bowdish of Hartford, several nieces and nephews.

She started work for Northfield Savings Bank in January 1950 and was secretary to the former president, Richard H. Gaylord.

She was elected assistant secretary to the corporation in 1951 and secretary in 1972, retiring in 1 973. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member or St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She was past grand regent of Catholic Daughters of America, St.

John's Chapter. She was a member of the Northfield Senior Citizens. She is survived by her husband. Homer; one daughter, Jac-quelyn Helen McKenna, and her husband, John, of Burlington; three sons, Francis E. and his wife, Sally, of Schenectady, N.Y., Joseph L.

and his wife, Susan, of Barre, James and his wife, Mary, of Latham, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Monday at 1 p.m. The Rev. William Morgan, pastor, will be the celebrant.

Calling hours are today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Kingston Funeral Home of Northfield is in charge of arrangements. EUGENE POMINVILLE SALISBURY On Feb. 3, 1900, a son was born to Oliva and Alexina (Gagnon) Pomainville in Limoges, Ontario.

They named him Eugene. He died Saturday, Dec. 16, 1989, at a nursing home in Bradford. He came to Vermont to find employment at 17. Here he met and married Alberta Larocque in 1925.

She died in 1985. Eight children were born. Simone and Charles died in infancy, and Frances Lebeau died in September 1989. Eugene is survived by three daughters and two sons, 24 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Except for the last eight months of his life, which he spent at the Bradford Nursing Home, his Vermont tenure was spent in Leicester and Salisbury.

Friends may call at the Waite Funeral Home in Middlebury from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Middlebury.

Burial will be later in the spring. Contributions may be made to the Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association, Middlebury, Vt. 05753, or the Alzheimer's Disease Clinic, 1 S. Prospect Burlington, Vt. 05401.

Those who knew him will remember him as a farmer and agricultural leader, a selectman, a school board member and a legis i MIRANDA M. JARVIS ISLE LA MOTTE Miss M. Jarvis, 98, a lifelong resi-ident of Isle La Motte and Burlington, passed away Saturday i morning, Dec. 16, 1989, at Holi-t day House, St. Albans.

Miss Jarvis was born in Isle La Motte on March 13, 1891, the i daughter of Daniel and Mary Jarvis. She attended school there, 'and at the age of 18 moved to where she served as a housekeeper for the Moore and 'Clement families for much of her 'working lifetime prior to returning to Isle La Motte 20 years ago. She was a member or St. Joseph's parish and the Ladies of St. Anne in Isle La Motte and belonged to the Islands in the Sun Senior Citizens.

During her years in Burling-'ton, she was a communicant at the Newman Center on Redstone 'Campus, University of Vermont. I Miss Jarvis is survived by three sisters-in-law, all of Isle La Motte, and three generations of nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church in Isle La Motto.
